Eligible species are limited to dolphin, kingfish, and snapper/grouper.

Fishing Hours

Saturday - June 7, 2008 6:30am to 3:00pm

Ties

In the event of a tie, the first fish to be weighed in will be declared the winner.

Captain’s Meeting

The Captain’s Meeting will take place at Monty’s Miami Beach on June 5, 2008 at 5:30pm.  All participating teams must have at least one representative at the meeting to receive their tournament numbers, Captain’s bags, etc.  The Official Rules will be reviewed during the meeting and ALL participants are responsible for the information given.  Additional rules may be published by the Tournament Committee and distributed at the Captain’s Meeting.

Radio

All participating boats should be equipped with a working VHF radio.  The tournament committee will monitor Channel 72.  Due to limitations of VHF radios, the Tournament Committee is not responsible for information not received on Channel 72 and ALL emergencies should be communicated on Channel 16 to the United States Coast Guard.

Weigh-In

The weigh station is located at the dock of Monty’s (on the boardwalk area).  The weigh station closes at 4:00pm and only anglers in line at the weigh station prior to 4:00pm will be allowed to weigh their catch.  One prize per registered boat per eligible fish.

Dinner

A tournament dinner will be held at Monty’s following the weigh-in.  The dinner, catered by Monty’s is for participating fishermen.  Participants who wish to bring family members to the dinner must purchase additional meal tickets by Thursday June 5, 2008.  Extra tickets will be available from Committee Members during registration.  A very limited number of tickets are available the day of the tournament for purchase.

Awards Ceremony, Raffle, and Silent Auction

The Awards Ceremony will follow the dinner.  Raffle tickets will be sold during the Captain’s meeting and during the dinner on the day of the tournament.  You must be present during the raffle to be eligible to redeem raffle prizes.  Junior anglers are NOT eligible for cash prizes.

This year’s tournament will host a Silent Auction for prizes such as a Sandals Vacation package and others.  This auction will take place during the Captain’s Meeting and will continue into the Awards Ceremony.  The auction will conclude immediately after the conclusion of the Awards Ceremony.  An announcement will be made when the auction is 5 minutes from conclusion and again at its conclusion (Tournament Director or his Designee will have authority to make announcements regarding the official end time of the auction).  The highest bidder on an item will be REQUIRED to pay for the item at the conclusion of the auction.  If payment is not received at that point then the winner forfeits this item and the next highest bidder wins the item. Some items may be ready for immediate pickup and others may be mailed out or picked up at the Miami Beach Police Department.

Responsibility of Registered Anglers

Boat captains are responsible for their vessel and passengers at all times.  All participating anglers MUST be registered with the tournament.  Any unacceptable conduct ashore or at sea during tournament by any registered participant will not be condoned and may be grounds for disqualification by the Tournament Committee.  The Tournament Committee may evaluate any catch to verify its legitimacy into the tournament.  Any eligible catch not deemed to be fresh caught by the Tournament Committee will be disqualified and the responsible team may also be disqualified from any and all prizes.

Release of Tournament Liability

It is expressively understood that all participants of the Miami Beach Police and Firefighters Fishing Festival enter at their own risk and that the FOP, IAFF, Monty’s, Committee Members, Tournament Director, and all persons connected directly or indirectly with this tournament shall be exempt from any liability for libel, slander, loss, damage, negligence, harm, injury, or death suffered by any participant, entrant, fisherman, guest, vessels, and equipment which may occur during this tournament.

Entry Form

(1) Entry Form is required per team and must be filled out in its entirety.  The Entry Form must be signed by a team participant as certification that the team has reviewed the Official Rules and agree to abide by them.  Payment must accompany the Entry Form or it will NOT be accepted.

Weather

The Tournament Committee, in its best judgment, will decide whether or not to cancel the tournament due to unsafe weather conditions.  If cancellation occurs, the tournament will be rescheduled with a date to be announced and an attempt to notify each team of the cancellation (at the phone number given on the Entry Form) will be conducted.  If the tournament is not cancelled and the weather is to rough for any particular team(s), each team is responsible for their own safety and would be cautioned to return to dock.
